ZigguratZiggurat - The temples of ancient Mesopotamia.  Ziggurats were found in the Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian and Assyrian civilizations.  They were made of baked clay bricks, as building materials were scarce in Mesopotamia.  Like most ancient "sky-scrapers", they were a type of pyramid, with a few differences from those of other civilizations, such as Egypt.  They were "stepped" with terraces and had long ramps running from the base to the upper levels.  Ziggurats are very old and their origin uncertain.  The biblical "Tower of Babel" was probably an early Ziggurat.
